Mumbai Style Pani Puri, the mere mention of this delightful street food is enough to sensitize your taste buds! The puris are stuffed with Green Moong and khara boondi. Eating the puffed puris in one go is an art in itself. Generally the stuffed puri is then dipped in spicy green chutney water and then eaten. To this water they can add tamarind chutney and make it sweet as well.

There are different variations of this sinful snack served across the country, in terms of the filling and the spices used in the chutney. They are called as Gol Gappa in the North or Puchka in West Bengal, Mumbai has its own version of this crowd pleaser. 

Serve Mumbai Style Pani Puri with Sev Puri and Dahi Bhalla Papdi for a weekend chaat party.

Ingredients

    30 Pani Puris
    2 Green Chutney (Coriander & Mint)
    2 Sweet Chutney (Date & Tamarind)
    1/4 Green Moong Dal (Whole), or black gram, boiled
    1/4 Boondi

Instructions for Mumbai Style Pani Puri Recipe

    To begin making the Mumbai Style Sukha Pani Puri, firstly make the chutneys by following the recipe on our website.

    The next step is to assemble, sprinkle some water on the khara boondi. In a mixing bowl add the khara boondi and the moong beans and stir.

    Make a small hole in the centre of each puri with your thumb. The puris are quite delicate so be careful while breaking them.

    Add about 1/2 teaspoon of the moong-khara boondi mixture to each puri.

    Fill the puris with date tamarind chutney and then fill in the green chutney and serve immediately. Repeat the same for other puris.
