Morocco is a North African country, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Spices like paprika, cumin and saffron are widely used in Moroccan food. A firm fleshed fish like salmon or basa fish is used to make this dish.

Moroccan Baked Fish recipe is a popular dish made in Morocco and Mediterranean region. The fish is baked on a bed of spiced Moroccan sauce which is made using coriander leaves or parsley, onion, garlic, olives and various spices. This dish is served with a bread named Challah or Moroccan baked bread. Some people even serve it with vegetables like potatoes or asparagus and white rice.

It makes for a filling and satisfying dinner and is a great weekend dinner or party food recipe.

Ingredients

For marination

    500 Basa fish, salmon or any white firm fleshed fish (1 fillet)
    1 Black pepper powder
    1/2 Salt
    4 Garlic, crushed
    4 Coriander (Dhania) Leaves, finely chopped
    4 Parsley leaves
    1/2 Homemade tomato puree
    1 Cumin powder (Jeera)
    1 Saffron strands
    2 Paprika powder
    1 Lemon, juiced
    1/4 Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    2 Onions, julienned
    1/4 Black olives, sliced and pitted

Instructions for Moroccan Baked Fish Recipe

    To begin making the Moroccan Baked Fish Recipe,combine garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin powder, paprika and saffron, lemon juice and tomato puree, salt, pepper powder and half the olive oil in a large bowl.

    Add the fish fillet to the bowl and coat the fish well with the marinade.Cover and marinate in the fridge for 2 hours.

    Into a preheated pan add some olive oil, onions and saute till the onions turn translucent. Once done add the sliced olives and saute for a few seconds. Turn off the heat and keep aside.

    Preheat the oven at 200 C for 5 Minutes. Spread the roasted onions in a baking dish. Arrange the marinated fish fillets over the roasted onions.Bake it for 25 Minutes until the fish is cooked through.

    While serving, take a plate and place a piece of Moroccan Baked Fish and drizzle a little of the gravy released into the pan on top.
